Historical Society Celebrates Annual Open House

About 40 people joined the Hawthorne Historical Society’s 8th Annual Holiday Open House last night at the Louis Bay 2nd Library. The event featured homemade hors d’oeuvres and desserts, and a presentation by Walter Choroszewski called “Timeline New Jersey.”

The presentation traced the history of New Jersey from prehistoric times all the way to the present, including the origins of our land, rock formations and dinosaurs, all the way through our modern founding and Revolutionary War battles. Choroszewski also connected New Jersey with the historical figures on the various U.S. currencies, demonstrating the wealth of history in our Garden State.

In the spirit of the holidays, the Society collected canned goods for one of the local food pantries, which followed its successful participation in last weekend’s Toys for Tots event. Society President Jackie Walsh thanked member Margaret Abate for all her work in gathering and buying toys and transporting them to the event.

The Hawthorne Historical Society meets the second Monday of every month at 7p at the Louis Bay 2nd library and community center. All are welcome. For further information contact Jackie Walsh at 201-694-8664.
